Porch awning pole sockets

If your porch awning uses those modern, thin, elasticated fiberglass rods for poles, you might find, like me, that the pole ends tend to try to force their way through the fabric pockets after a bit of use. Mine did once, but since then I have found a way to reinforce them and make the pockets much more robust.

I found the plastic tops from the pocket breath freshener sprays were a perfect fit for the pockets helping to distribute the strain throughout the pockets rather than it being concentrated on a few stitches in the material. Permanent marker caps might work as an alternative to the breath freshener caps.
