When we toured your country I down loaded RAC maps Travel planner which was excellent. Would do it again as it was great to get travel times distance etc Did not use all the written detail just the mapping page per day etc mad the travel very easy. Sat nav yes would use one but like Lester never trust them 100%.

I'm a lorry driver and journey plan for truck, car or caravan journeys in advance with Google maps printouts of key sections eg: near end point. I would also use Google map on my phone once near location (in a layby) to refresh the memory in an ariel view or streetview function for better reference. I dont own a sat nav and know fellow lorry drivers that have been misled by these useless pieces of kit that bare no relevance in some cases to the road layout or type of junction, one way streets, no turn right/left etc. There are now hgv sat navs with the width height n weight limits built in.

TDCi Ross Sat nav to a trucker that is not written for trucks would be a huge disaster. When I drove HGV I never used one even thou I had one in my private vehicle.

I was training a driver once who was not familiar with the city we were in and he had in his words the magic Sat Nav . Whilst I told him the key roads to use he was hell bent on following the sat nav which he set for the shortest route . Truck and trailer and it was going to take us directly through the CBD to get to the other side of the city. Needless to say we did not follow his toys direction. What a laugh he was not best pleased with me.
