Murder arrests over girl's New Forest campsite death

Murder arrests over girl's New Forest campsite death

A man and a woman have been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a six-year-old girl at a Hampshire campsite.
Police were called to the Holmsley campsite in the New Forest in the early hours.
South Central Ambulance Service, who were first on the scene, said the girl was "fitting and not breathing" and went into cardiac arrest.
A 30-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman, from Gosport, are in custody.
The girl was taken to Southampton General Hospital where she was declared dead.
Officers remain at the campsite carrying out an examination of the scene and gathering witness statements.
Speaking at the scene, Sgt Heather McNicol, from Hampshire Police, said they were "treating the death as possibly suspicious because of the age of the little girl".
The campsite operators, Camping in the Forest, say the site is closed to new arrivals.

Two arrested following death of a child in the New Forest released by police

A man and a woman arrested earlier today (Friday, April 6) following the death of a six-year-old girl at a camp site in Holmsley in the New Forest have been released with no further action.
The results of a post mortem examination conducted at Southampton General Hospital have indicated that there are no suspicious circumstances.

The arrests made this morning were necessary as a result of a report from experienced medical professionals.

The girl***8217;s death is no longer being treated as suspicious but a tragic incident. An investigation into the cause of the girl***8217;s death is ongoing.

As with all investigations into the death of a child we will now be working with partner agencies to support the family throughout the investigation process.

Officers will remain on the camp site and in the vicinity for the next 24 hours to reassure visitors to the site and the local community.

We would like to thank the camp site and its residents for their co-operation and assistance with our enquiries.

The Camping and Caravanning Club's Director General Robert Louden said: "We were saddened to hear the tragic news earlier today and have since been assisting the police with their ongoing investigations.

"On behalf of the Club I would personally like to thank our holiday site managers, assistants and campers on site at Holmsley for their full cooperation and compassion, and our thoughts are very much with the little girl's family and friends at this difficult time."

Police Statement:

Lee and Tracey Harris (aged 30 and 40 respectively) parents of Isabelle Harris, who tragically died in the early hours of Friday, April 6, have issued the following statement:
***8220;We are all absolutely devastated about what has happened. No words are strong enough to describe how we feel at the moment. Isabelle was our whole world; everything we ever did was for her. She was a really special girl and this is a huge loss to everyone who knew her.
***8220;The police investigation has concluded and a file will be passed to the coroner. We really don***8217;t want to discuss this further. We want to find out why this happened and we would like to leave the police to get on with this.
***8220;We would like to thank the owners of the camp site for their assistance and apologise to other campers on the site who were there to enjoy their bank holiday weekend.

***8220;We would like to give special thanks to the first responders and paramedics who treated Isabelle at the camp site.

***8220;Our thanks also go to Hampshire Constabulary. We thank them for the way they have treated us, being as open and honest as they can. We also appreciate their ongoing support and have no issues with their actions.***8221;

Lee and Tracey will not be issuing a photograph of Isabelle and now wish to be left in peace to grieve for their daughter. We ask the media to respect their wishes.
The Camping in the Forest site at Holmsley reopened and be contacted directly on 01425 674502.
