Getting our 1st caravan tomorrow!
We are going to inspect/collect our first caravan tomorrow. We bought it off Ebay for £500 with a full new(virtually) awning and all the equipment ie water container gas bottle ect. Phoned the seller this evening to get directions and ask a few questions and he said because it is in storage he thinks it will be easier to meet us in a lay by with it! I am not comfortable with this at all as I wanted to check out all the electrics and make a thorough check for damp and its condition. I am a little nervous because I wont actually be going as I have to stay at home with the kids. My husband is going with his big burly mate who is quite sensible and knows lots about everything. I feel better that he is going but none of us have owned a caravan before so we could end up with anything!!

Don't forget to ask for all paperwork c.r.i.s. etc.lots of stolen vans sold in lay by's they always use those kind of excuses like difficult to find your way to storage or we live down a country lane with difficult access etc.so we'll meet you in a lay by. Be very carefull hope it goes ok. Good luck.

Hope all goes ok for you but I would never meet anyone in a lay-by to buy a caravan. I would emphatically state that you are going to meet him at the storage place or not at all. My present caravan was in storage when I viewed/bought it and there were no problems at all. Good luck.

The caravan in 1989 so wont be Cris registered. He seems genuine enough but I dont like the idea of meeting in a lay by simply because if it is a bag of rubbish then it is much easier if we meet him where it is stored. I am hoping this is not the case

Hi
Request the seller to bring some utility bills / post port as proof or the original bill of sale Note the car number plate and the van number plate Personally the equation of Ebay and lay bye equals Trouble Best of luck Dave

If you do go ahead and do this deal in a layby may I suggest while your husband and his mate are taking a look around the van you excitedly take some photo's of your new van making sure you capture a few shots of the seller. Ham it up a bit and get him to pose handing over the keys.
If he comes across all shy I would be worried. Other than that all the best and good luck.

sounds a bit iffy , sold my last one in the storage compound . make sure your other half checks everything works and no damp or spongy floor as if things dont work that is when money starts flowing out.quite a few i have seen via ebay had damp . as i have looked for vans for myself and my mate .some have said there is no damp and when checked there was areas where you put your finger straight through the side . we did not buy them .
