Well we used to have a mercedes ml 320, and i am a mercedes fan, but we will never have one again, It had a fault on the engine, that we were told is a common fault .... something to do with the fuel system and we were told that it would cost £3000 to put right .. and this is a common fault how mad is that.
I cant comment on the X5 as we havent had one ![]()

Have you also considered the Volvo XC90? The D5 engine, same as in my V70 is an excellent tug motor.

Good point Kerry and from personal experience the Volvo's tend to be better spec'd for the same money. I had a choice of BMW318, BMW320 or VolvoS60 and ended up with a top spec Volvo for less than the cost of a base model of either BMW. My Volvo was a 2.0T petrol model but it never let me down and I would describe them as mechanically bombproof.

Kerry the XC90 was on the list but afraid they are nearly the same money for similiar age cars even though more economical but if i see the right one it may well come back into the running, was trying to ensure i dont have to change car again if i upgrade van(i know that most vans come under this but when those big 8ft wide vans start coming out you never know
![]() Expat yes when new i'm sure thats the case but second hand is a different thing alltogether the Merc and Beemer take more of a kicking on the depreciation and most have been specked up but this doesnt reflect in the second hand price. Cheers Paul think the mark 1 definitely had issues but the company put a lot of effort in on the mark 2 to improve quality
