[UPDATE] 1st weekend away in trailer tent

Firstly apologies for the late update on the weekend away at Conkers, whilst there the digi camera broke and still waiting for it to be repaired.

Anyway on the Friday evening we were supposed to be there for 7pm, didnt leave Sheffield until then as she who must be obeyed didnt get back from work until then
Rang the site to let them know we were running late. Arrived on site at 8.30pm, was shown to pitch then the fun began-not
All went swimmingly until it came to the dreaded awnings. the instructions for the 2 awnings are in Spanish and at 10.30pm its not the best time to try and decipher what they mean and I was trying hard not to mix up the bags of poles but that didn't last long, esp when a 7 year old starts to pass me this pole or that pole from different bags, when I reply "no can you put it back from where you took it from please", it just gets dropped on the ground and of she trots to annoy mum, so in the I gave up trying to put them up.
So we had our evening meal at 11pm went to bed with the awning poles half fitted and half all over the ground.
Saturday got up early 5.30am (not a big sleeper me) read the instruction again and worked out what was what and by 10am had awnings up and secuered
Did take some photos but the camera had a duck fit it sounds like the mechanism for the shutter has brokeand don't work anymore
The elderly couple next to us were really lovely and we had a good chat and a laugh as it brought back many memories for them from when they had a trailer tent. Also
had good laugh with the couple behind as well, they admitted it was there first time camping. All in all went really well, so much so that when we got home booked same site for the 3rd-6th Septand we will be visiting Conkers Park this time and we will be leaving Sheffield at midday to get there in plenty of time. She who must be obeyedis under strict instructions not to work.Hope to have a working camera by then.

Sounds like you had the beginners joy of camping lol Once you have matered the poles you will do it with ease after that. Oh and I know what its like to have kids pass you poles that complicate things lol Glad your enjoying it

glad you had a good time and it has not put you off. I had a trailer tent for 10 yrs I use to send the missus and child for a walk so I can put it up on my own after a couple time it was a doodle take about 40mins.

I guess poles on your trailer tent awning are similar to those on a caravan one.
After the first time of putting up my awning I questioned why on earth I was separating the poles when I packed it away. Now I just slide one almost as far as it will go into it's mate and lock it with the thumbscrew. They still fit into the bag, I have not had to colour code them with tape and it makes assembly the next time so easy with them already being in pairs.

Dawn & Pete were brill, had a great time, I think its more fun when things don't quite go to plan esp when setting up or packing away.
can't wait for the 3rd Sept to arrive so that we can really enjoy ourselves hopefully the digi camera will be fixed by then, also looked at a 12 night holiday for next year, 3 different campsites each with 4 nights on each, waiting for the new site book from the camping & caravanning club. Will book through them as they have good sites and reasonable prices.
Will look at the bonfire meet sounds really good fun.
