Road Wars / Caravan Security

Was just watching Road Wars on Sky, and they had a bit with a poor family's van stolen from off the back of their car in the motorway services. Terrible, and although the copper did try and help find it, it would appear that there was not much they could do.

My brother has on of those Vinyl Cutters that you use to do signwriting on vans etc, so I am thinking of doing some lettering on the roof of my van, so that the motorway cameras and if in the area - the chopper - could see it clearly.

What do you think?, my father-in-law thinks its a good idea (Thats who I bought the van from) and that I should put my postcode on the roof.

This has been commented on many times but just remember whatever you put up there has to be easily removable for when you sell it but yes a good idea but maybe a tracker would be more usefull

I have a tracker, but it only works when in range of the cellular network - which if you spend any time in wales, you will know isn't that often once you leave town.

Sounds like a good idea that but be aware that every caravan made now has a micro chip built into the caravan so can be easily identified when scanned and a record of this is kept with the criss registration so make sure you are registered

Fine

Some dealers do the lettering already cut, and theyre about 8" high, i was going to get that for my caravan.

Dont forget post code would be an advert for away from home! And near enough the address. Chassis No may be better, + car reg no.

Valid Point about the postcode - from further reading it seems that the last 6 digits of chassis number or similar is the preffered way. It would seem that if the theiving scum want your van - they will get it regardless, im just hoping that the more security, then it will deter them and they will move onto an easier target (appologies in advance if you live near me and dont have a lot of security in your van )
