Well thatís a surprise!

After 10 years of Vanmaster ownership weíre getting a replacement!

Our daughter had to get a new caravan, Swift Challenger 560, after hers was stolen and we have just spent a few days in it near where she lives as we had a funeral to attend in Suffolk.

A bit of internet trawling got us curious and we contacted Robinsonís caravans at Chesterfield where our friend Jarrod told us he had a 2021 Swift Elegance 480 for us to see. A trip up there yesterday and a bit of measuring has decided us itíll fit the space where the Vanmaster lives at home, so weíre going for it. This will be the 4th caravan we have bought from him now.

Itíll be sometime late January when we get it.

Two things I shall really miss. The underfloor heating and my super Alpine audio system.

We have underfloor heating in our Buccaneer and it makes a big difference. You will really miss it. Just surprised you are selling the Vanmaster and downgrading?

I know! It'll be fine, probably our last caravan ever at our age. The Vanmaster is doing OK, damp readings are low but I guess we fancied a change after 10 years. TBH the wiring in it is rubbish, way behind the times. Structurally its OK and will do another caravanner a few years. There is nothing like it new anymore, the last Vanmaster before its last demise was silly money. We have had 5 Swift products under different brand names and they've been OK, the bits that go wrong are the bought in items generally.

We did actually consider the Swift Basecamp as a total change! But relented for comfort

What we need to consider in the next year or so is a tow car before leccy cars are all you can get. That plus another classic.

Wishing you lots of pleasure with your new 'van!
Know what you mean when you say it may be your last caravan; we are in our eighties and although I still enjoy the towing as much as ever, even with a mover the caravan sometimes tests my abilities. EG it is a strain now to clean it, up and down on a ladder takes its toll doing the roof. I am seriously considering downgrading to a folder, much like the Pathfinder we used to have a few years ago, or even a nice condition later Fiesta/Countryman. It really depends on what happens when the Saab finally dies - right now it is going well with nearly 130k miles but nothing lasts forever. Should we end up with something like an Astra estate (petrol, we do too many shorts trips which are bad for the DPF) it would depend on whether we could get a 1.8 in good nick, which with its power could cope with a Pathfinder but if we end up with a later one, they are less power and only 1.6. Theoretically within the makers spec max (auto estate 1000kg). Now the Saab will probably go on for ever, or this kiss of death may cause it to blow up tomorrow. LOL.

I built a poor man's Westie (Roobin Hood) years ago, great fun.

Well the Vanmasterís last occupation was to be over Címas but now thatís not happening. Not sure we can even advertise it after Címas as I expect we shall be in some tier level that may prevent anyone coming to see it.
