Hobby caravan owner turned away from Yorkshire site

I personally think this is blatant discrimination hence my reason for posting this

An owner of a Hobby caravan has accused a Yorkshire caravan site of discrimination after he was turned away for his choice of vehicle.

Otterington Park caravan site, near Northallerton in North Yorkshire, said that they would not let Thomas Newby and his family into the site as it would encourage travellers to try and get in as well.

Mr Newby, a local businessman, told the Northern Echo: "I am frankly disgusted by [their] attitude and clearly discriminatory behaviour. We are not travellers, though that is beside the point."

He added that discriminating against caravan owners because of their make of tourer is "unbelievable".

Carol Bowe, the site's owner, said that the park was privately owned and hence they could "take who we want and refuse who we want".

German manufacturer Hobby is Europe's largest caravan maker and many of its models are popular amongst the Caravanning community.

I agree this is disgusting and frankly how can there be any justifiable reason private or otherwise to refuse access for a caravanner.

Will these site owners get away with this stance?

doesnt really surprise me.

its the reason why, we wouldnt have a hobby again as much as we like them.

And the funny thing is, is that many travellers dont always travel with them these days, often using english vans and motorhomes.

shame really.. but you do come across some odd site owners/wardens dont you.

So the site owner can admitt who she likes and turn away who she likes, If that had happened to me I would drasticly reduce her choice! I would do everything in my power to see her out of busness, Wouldnt take a lot of bad publicity, Maybe all forums should have a blacklist??

Agreed! Why should you be discriminated against just because you are using freedom of choice!

The site I am currently sat on has signs up saying no commercial vehicles in at least 6 locations + the office and is on their website and booking confirmation documentation too.
There has been one van here this weekend towed by a twin cab pickup sign written with the owner's tree surgery business and a dutch van towed by a Mk5 Transit Van - just because you reserve the right to refuse entry does not mean that you have to.
(PS There are 'No Ball Game' signs too - but that didn't stop last nights' Football & Rounders matches on the site . . .)

Cheers

Keith

Surely it is the site owners choice who they allow on site. Maybe they have had trouble in the past.
